The deputy permanent representatives and defense counsellors, invited by France, went to the Saint-Dizier airbase (BA113) in an A400M aircraft. They attended a presentation of the Strategic Air Forces which constitutes the airbone component of the French deterrence force. The visit of the chasseurs squadron 1/4 “Gascogne” enabled them to discover one of France’s industrial flagship : the Rafale aircraft and its armament.

The deputies and their counsellors later went to the Quai d’Orsay in Paris for a discussion panel on nuclear deterrence composed of officials and think tankers.

On the second day they were welcomed at the Hotel National des Invalides by General Bruno Le Ray, military governor of Paris. They took part in a discussion panel on readiness and military mobility.

These topics will be among the major issues discussed at the next Summit of NATO heads of States and Government which will take place in Brussels on 11-12 July 2018.

The away-days ended by a guided tour of the Invalides.
