French participation to exercise Trident Juncture 2018 (25 October - 7 November) [fr]
Trident Juncture 2018 takes place from 25 October to November 7th in Norway. Organised every three years, Trident Juncture is a defensive livex whose objective is to test Allies’ defence and interoperability.
More than 3000 French personnel take part in NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2018. In addition to ground troops, France also deploys two frigates, a projection and command ship, a replenishment oiler and four Mirage fighter planes.
Overall, about 50,000 personnel, 10,000 vehicles, 250 aircrafts and 65 combat ships are deployed by the 29 Allied countries, as well as NATO partners Finland and Sweden.
This defensive exercise is based on a scenario of military intervention against a fictitious ennemy in the framework of Article 5. In the current security context marked by uncertainty, it allows the Alliance to train against any threat coming from any direction.
This exercise will also enable the certification of the three components which will carry out the alert of the NATO Response Force in 2019. It is led by Admiral James G. Foggo, who commands the NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples.
